Juggling the roles of a mom and a business owner is no small feat. Running your own successful business is hard enough but adding all your super mom roles on top of that seems like a never ending uphill battle. So how do you cope with everything piling on on a daily basis? One of the best solutions is mastering the art of time management. This is your secret weapon for achieving that perfect balance.

In this blog post, I’ll share practical time management tips and techniques tailored just for you – the superhero mompreneurs!

One of the first tips in mastering time management is setting goals. We all know we must begin with the end in mind. What do you want to achieve? What are your main goals this month or this week? One way to make sure your goals are on point is to set SMART goals. Your goals should always be Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound (SMART). These goals act as your roadmap, guiding you towards success in both your business and family life.

Once your goals have been set, you of course need to create your plan to achieve them in a timely manner. This would involve breaking them down to bite sized, conquerable items then working out a plan to actually achieve them. This will keep you focused and go a long way in helping you to manage your time.

Tip 2: Understand Your Priorities

In order to get a handle on your time management you must understand your priorities. As a mompreneur, your days are packed to the brim with tasks. Before you jump in to get them completed you first need to understand and identify your priorities.

Start by identifying what’s truly important in both your personal and professional life. Prioritize tasks that align with your overall goals and values. This will aid you in mastering the juggling act.

Next you need to categorize your tasks. Remember, not all tasks are created equal and shouldn’t be treated the same way. Use a simple system such as the Eisenhower Matrix to categorize tasks based on urgency and importance. This will help you focus on what truly matters and avoid getting bogged down by less critical tasks.

Once you’ve decided what you need to focus on and what you need to accomplish as soon as possible, the next step is to strategize the tasks in the other quadrants. Be sure to delegate and or outsource the less critical but still important tasks. Identify tasks that can be delegated, either at home or in your business. Trusting others with certain responsibilities frees up your time for more critical matters. Consider outsourcing tasks that aren’t your strengths. Whether it’s hiring a virtual assistant or contracting freelancers, outsourcing allows you to focus on what you do best.

Tip 3: Create a Realistic Schedule

One of the best time management tips is to create a realistic schedule. When you have school projects due, extra-curricular activities and a new client to onboard all due, creating a realistic schedule seems like a pretty good time management option. Creating a realistic schedule will help you accomplish all those items that you know are due but somehow you end up struggling with at the last minute. Three tips to help with your schedule are time blocking, daily and weekly scheduling and being flexible:

    1. Time Blocking

Time blocking is your new best friend. All you need to do is allocate specific blocks of time for different tasks throughout the day. For example you can allocate 9 a.m. – 12 noon for homeschool, 1p.m. – 3p.m. to work in your business, 4pm  – 6pm for extra-curricular and so on. This time management strategy helps you stay organized, focused and avoids the chaos of multitasking.

    2. Daily and Weekly Schedules

Creating schedules is a super awesome way to master your time management skills. Start by creating realistic daily and weekly schedule that are easy to follow. I recommend using a daily planner to get super organized here. Be sure to include dedicated family time and self-care activities. A well-structured schedule provides a clear path for both work and family commitments.

    3. Be Flexible with Time Management

Life is unpredictable, and so is business. With all your time management efforts be sure to be flexible. Incorporating flexibility into your schedule helps you to accommodate unexpected events without panicking too much or feeling stressed. Being flexible and having contingency plans, just in case, make you better equipped to handle curveballs with grace.

    Tip 4: Overcome Procrastination

Procrastination is the assassination of your destination. It literally holds us back from achieving our goals. Let’s face it, we’ve all been guilty of procrastination at some point in time. In order to effectively implement time management strategies it’s best to identify what’s keeping you from achieving your tasks. Procrastination may be a manifestation of fear, overwhelm or even lack of motivation. Acknowledging these hurdles and identifying the problem is the first step towards finding a solution.

Once you identify why you’re procrastinating. You need to then work on your mindset. Cultivate a proactive mindset by breaking down big tasks into smaller, more manageable steps. Be sure to celebrate small victories along the way and stay positive. This approach keeps you moving forward and helps you achieve your time management goals more effortlessly.

Tip 5 Balance Work and Family Time

How to Ensure a Work-Life Balance - Tips for Busy Mompreneurs

Effective time management is about achieving balance. As a mompreneur we are sometimes so busy getting tasks done that we neglect our family time. Or the reverse may happen – When we’re on family time our business may be on pause. Here are some tips to keep that balance.

Schedule Quality Family Time – Your family is your driving force. Schedule quality family time, free from work distractions. This ensures that when you’re with your loved ones, you’re fully present.

Set Boundaries – Establish clear boundaries between work and personal life. Communicate these boundaries to your family, team and even yourself. It’s about creating a harmonious blend, not a constant tug-of-war.

Automate your Business – Automate as many aspects of your business as you can. This ensures that even when you’re on family time time, your business is still running and being profitable

Self-Care is Non-Negotiable – Don’t forget about yourself! Schedule regular self-care activities, whether it’s a bubble bath, a good book, or a quick workout. Taking care of yourself ensures you have the energy to tackle both mom and entrepreneur roles.

Tip 6 Utilize Time Management Tools and Technology

There are several time management tools you can utilize to make your life a whole lot easier. Here are few to get you started:

Kanban BoardsElevate your time blocking game with a Kanban board. Visualize your tasks on a board with columns like ‘To-Do,’ ‘In Progress,’ and ‘Done.’ It’s a fun and effective way to manage your workflow. My favorite tool is Trello. It allows me to view multiple tasks at a glance, prioritize them, automate them, set reminders and track progress. It also helps in monitoring team members and providing updates for clients.

Pomodoro TechniqueThis is a time management method where you work for 25 minutes, then take a 5-minute break. Then Repeat. This technique helps maintain focus and prevents burnout.

Batch Processing – This  involves grouping tasks into themed groups. Instead of tackling tasks individually, group similar tasks together. It allows for a more structured and streamlined approach, preventing you from doing random, unrelated tasks aimlessly.

JournalingKeeping a journal can provide clarity amidst the chaos. Jot down your thoughts, achievements, and challenges. It’s like having a conversation with yourself and gaining valuable insights along the way. It’s a tool for self-reflection and providing insights to assist with future planning.

Automate Your Business – This helps you put your business and mom tasks on autopilot. Identify repetitive tasks that can be automated. This would allow you to stay ahead and focus on more strategic aspects of your business and life. Some tasks which can be automated include:

    • Business processes
    • Emails
    • Social media engagement
    • Affiliate Marketing
    • Courses
    • Invoicing
    • Bill Payments

Automation not only frees up your time but also makes you more efficient and successful.

    Conclusion

Mompreneurs, you are incredible. Balancing the demands of motherhood and entrepreneurship is no small feat, but with effective time management, you can conquer it all. It’s not about doing everything perfectly, but rather finding a rhythm that works for you. So, grab your time-blocking schedule, embrace your journals and Kanban board, and conquer each day with the grace and power that defines you!
